When discussing CCWs, it’s assumed you're talking about on-body carry. It may surprise you to know many long-time CCW permit carriers prefer to carry their firearms off-body.

There are many times on-body carry is not practical. In warmer weather, lighter clothing leaves fewer places to discreetly carry. Off-body carry can be more comfortable and secure than on-body. When those situations arise in which you'll need immediate access to your firearm, there are many choices for how to carry a firearm off-body and a few safety concerns as well. Consider these tips for off-body concealed carry.

  1. Safety

Whatever you choose for your off-body carry vessel, it should be secure and safe at all times.
  2. Firearm purses

Most people won't look twice at a woman carrying a purse; therefore, it can be a great choice for women looking to carry off-body. In theory, any purse can do the job, but it’s important to choose a purse specifically designed for concealed carry. Mixing your firearm and other random objects generally found in a purse poses a safety risk. As an alternative to using a purse designed for concealed carry, dual purpose cases can easily fit inside a regular purse. Resembling a wallet or day planner, these accessories adequately conceal a firearm while meeting a practical need.
  3. Messenger bags

For both men and women, messenger bags are a practical way to carry what you need. There are several on the market today designed specifically for carrying firearms. Typically less than $100, these bags protect your firearm and don't attract unnecessary attention.
  4. Briefcases

Briefcases are fashionable today among more than just businesspeople. A briefcase can be a secure place to carry your firearm while still allowing you to blend in with the crowd. Some briefcases specifically designed for concealed carry are bulletproof. These briefcases are created to accommodate firearms in a variety of sizes.
  5. Locked cases

Especially if you know you won't need immediate access to your firearm, a locked case is a great way to prioritize safety while still protecting yourself. Lockable firearm cases can be an inexpensive investment. They make sure people who mean you harm can't access your firearm. They also are a safe way to keep firearms away from children.
